Preventing food loss and waste is now law
Today, after three years working with the Collective NoWasteLaw , we've closely followed the plenary session of Congress and, finally, we can say that the State Law for the Prevention of Food Loss and Waste is a reality. It has been a long road, full of effort and demands, and although this progress is important, there is still much to be done.
A key victory: from the first draft of the law, we fought to have gleaning included. And we succeeded: gleaning is recognized in the law as a tool for preventing food losses in the field.
The law also strengthens the role of the social and solidarity economy, supporting models based on prevention and revaluation of surpluses from a circular perspective, as well as socio-labor integration projects.
While we welcome the progress, we insist on the need for effective implementation and greater ambition in regulating the sector. The fight against loss and waste continues.
